Tata Elxsi sweeps the 2nd Golden Cursor Animation Awards
Mumbai, May 12, 2009- Roadside Romeo, India’s first 3D animated motion picture, created by Tata Elxsi Ltd.’s Visual Computing Labs (VCL) division has been awarded the ‘The Golden Cursor Animation(GCA) Award’ in 5 categories. A co-production of Walt Disney Pictures and Yash Raj Films, “Roadside Romeo”, created by Tata Elxsi Ltd’s VCL studios in Mumbai has been adjudged winner in the categories of “Best Animated Feature Film”, “Best Animation (Professional)”,“Best Animated Title Sequence”, “Best Music” and “Best Lyrics”.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Pankaj Khandpur, Creative Director, VCL, Tata Elxsi Ltd said, “I am really happy that we won. It is very good that an award like GCA has been instituted which aims to recognize technical efforts as well. It was not just about winning but also about the categories that we won in, which made the difference. Winning the Best Feature Award for a film like Roadside Romeo which has international quality is another feather in our cap.
“Since its launch in 2008, Golden Cursor Animation Awards have been creating a buzz in the industry, bringing to light some of the best work that the Indian animation industry has projected in the last few years,” he further added.
Instituted in the year 2008 by Arena Animation, a global leader in hi-end animation training in association with Cell18, one of Asia's largest production houses and creative arm of Network 18, ‘The Golden Cursor Animation Awards’ have been conceptualized with the objective of enhancing and shaping the future of the Indian Animation industry as it expands its foothold in the international animation arena. The winners were chosen after a comprehensive three-stage process that involved the Indian Animation Industry nominating some of their best work across 25 categories. Post that, a panel of experts short listed the top 3-5 nominees in every category and the same were presented to an eminent jury panel comprising of the animation industry’s most revered names, who short listed the entries based on the pre - determined parameters.
