 Radar Data Processing System

Tata Elxsi designed and developed the entire system for 386 Based Multibus II Bus Controller System for Radar Data Processing. The project included the design and development of hardware, firmware & the software. System comprised of 6 hardware modules. The Embedded controllers were based on the iRMX real-time Embedded Operating system.

Client
A large Indian flight automation company

Product Features
The RDP contained six modules performing specific functions .The modules were Host agent, BCRT (Mil 1553 bus) agent, Discrete Bus agent, NVRAM agent, SCSI (Tape) agent, and Central Services Module.
System to have built in diagnostics in each card to allows user for pre flight testing.
Provision for standard debugging and development tools.

Tata Elxsi Solution features

Designed and developed a complete system for Radar Data Processing having six modules. The system included the following features.
Host card based on a i386EX processor capable of booting and running iRMX having a local SCSI interface. iRMX (3.2.1) was retargeted to run on the custom built i386EX based single board computer. The retargeting involved the development of Device Driver for a SCSI hard disk for the RTOS and also the bootstrap loader.
BCRT agent ran on a card specific firmware used for interfacing the ARDP with the Mil 1553 bus.
Discrete Bus agent is used to collect high-speed serial data from the primary radar. This agent also implemented a receive buffer used to collect and store the data before it is retrieved by the host.
NVRAM (Non Volatile RAM) agent ran on a card specific firmware helping the application on the host store crucial data collected during run time and could be retrieved even after system shutdown.
SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) agent provided an interface with a SCSI tape drive. The application could make use of the SCSI tape interface to store and retrieve data.
CSM agent functioned the central services module card coordinating the parallel system bus activities including a Global time of the day clock helpful in keeping the system time.

Tools made available were iC386 - 'C' compiler, ASM386 assembler, BND386 binder, BLD386 -system builder, ICU -Interactive Configuration Utility, Soft Scope debugger, and system debugger along with standard Intel development tools.

Key Customer Value
With Tata Elxsi's expertise in communication and both hardware and software, enabled customer to execute a complex project with one vendor. The project was designed and developed to meet 100% customer specifications. Customer could manage the complexity of the project by deploying minimum resources.
