Our customer is a leading European networking component manufacturer.
The customer reckoned that redesigning peripheral component interconnect (PCI) adapter cards would lower costs by as much as $2/card. The customer turned to us after evaluating several vendors.
The project involved understanding the functional requirements of a PCI adapter card in a token ring switch, all subsystems and on-board components; redesigning the printed circuit board.
We commenced the project by studying the design schematics and component details of the existing card. The power supply regulator was redesigned as also the crystal oscillator timing circuits. Cost-friendly and high performance components replaced obsolete ones.
Further, prototype development and product testing were performed to meet functional and environmental (thermal, heat dissipation, EMI/EMC) compliances. Finally, the token ring adapter was fitted into the PCI slot in the front board of the token ring switch.
Our redesigning brought down costs by $2/card without compromising system efficiency and performance. This further translated into noticeable competitive advantage for the customer in the global networking product space. Riding on proven expertise in board design, embedded network telecom software and value engineering, we helped the customer focus on the next big thing in product development.
