HIL Validation Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse feature requirements, specifications and validation scope.
  • Create detailed test cases, validation scenarios and test procedures.
  • Review test cases for requirement coverage, completeness, consistency and traceability.
  • Execute HIL-based validation tests for automotive ECUs and vehicle features.
  • Configure and operate HIL test environments, including ECU interfaces, input stimulation and fault injection.
  • Perform vehicle-level validation in laboratory and lab-car environments.
  • Validate functional behaviour under normal, boundary and fault conditions.
  • Monitor vehicle and ECU signals using CAN and LIN communication tools.
  • Capture, analyse and interpret test logs, traces and measurement data.
  • Use signal correlation to identify deviations between expected and observed behaviour.
  • Measure electrical parameters such as current and voltage using appropriate instruments.
  • Report test results, failures and observations clearly with supporting evidence.
  • Perform initial root-cause analysis by correlating requirements, logs, signals, hardware behaviour and software changes.
  • Collaborate with development and integration teams to reproduce issues and support defect resolution.
  • Participate in defect triage, issue prioritisation and closure discussions.
  • Re-execute validation after fixes, calibration changes or software updates.
  • Maintain accurate test execution records and contribute to validation reports.
  • Identify opportunities to improve test coverage, automation, repeatability and validation efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement of validation processes, HIL setups and test methodologies.

Required Technical Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in automotive validation or system testing.
  • Strong hands-on experience in HIL validation of automotive ECUs and features.
  • Experience in test-case design, review and execution.
  • Good knowledge of CAN communication and vehicle network validation.
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as: 
    • Vector CANoe
    • CANalyzer
    • HIL system configuration and monitoring tools
    • Current and voltage measurement equipment
  • Ability to understand communication matrices, signal definitions and test specifications.
  • Experience with test log analysis and signal-based troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of ECU interfaces, diagnostics and fault handling.
  • Exposure to vehicle validation, road testing and lab-car testing.
  • Ability to analyse feature behaviour and perform structured root-cause analysis.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience validating ADAS, body, chassis, powertrain or vehicle motion features.
  • Familiarity with ECU flashing, calibration changes and software build validation.
  • Knowledge of UDS diagnostics and diagnostic test execution.
  • Experience working with CAN, LIN and automotive measurement systems.
  • Exposure to automated test execution and scripting.
  • Understanding of requirements management and defect tracking tools.
  • Experience in generating test reports and validation status metrics.
  • Hands-on exposure to AI-based tools for test generation, log analysis, anomaly detection or productivity improvement.
