Background

Tata Steel sought to enhance the effectiveness of its training programme, which was previously reliant on conventional, labour-intensive methods. Given the scale of its operations and the diversity of its workforce, the company aimed to transition towards a more immersive and engaging training solution. The goal was not just to improve knowledge retention, but to provide hands-on exposure to real-world industrial scenarios in a controlled and safe environment aligning with Tata Steel’s vision of ‘Zero Harm’.

Challenge

  • The current training method at Tata Steel was laborious and strenuous.
  • Training large volume and diverse background of people who came with language barriers, had difficulty to convert theory to practice, was all the more challenging
  • Design an innovative experiential learning platform to make the training engaging, increase knowledge retention and give practical exposure to actual working environment in a safe way
  • Help Tata Steel achieve its vision of ' Zero Harm'

Solution

  • Set up a state-of-the-art Safety Digital Training Centre at Tata Steel Jamshedpur, that would focus around highlighting Safety measures and other related risk areas of working in a steel plant educate officers, employees and contract workers highlighting safety measures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other related risk areas of working in a steel plant.
