Introduction

A leading Indian telecom operator modernized its customer experience landscape by deploying Tata Elxsi's iCX on AWS. The operator initiated a large-scale CX transformation program to meet the growing demand for seamless device lifecycle management and faster issue resolution.

Tata Elxsi deployed its iCX platform on AWS, creating a cloud-native, modular CX layer that integrates seamlessly with the telecom operator's existing IT and telecom stack. The solution enabled real-time, consistent customer journeys while improving operational efficiency and reducing operational expenditure (OpEx).

Challenge

A leading Indian telecom operator serves millions of mobile, broadband, and enterprise subscribers across diverse geographies. As customer expectations shifted toward seamless digital interactions and omnichannel engagement, the organization sought to enhance its customer experience ecosystem while supporting rapid business growth.

However, legacy applications, siloed operational systems, and manual deployment processes limited the organization's ability to scale services efficiently and introduce new capabilities at the pace demanded by the market. The company also faced challenges in remotely monitoring and managing large-scale deployments of customer-premises equipment (CPE) and in-field set-top boxes (STBs), resulting in increased operational overhead and longer resolution times.

In addition, maintaining deployment consistency across environments, managing application releases, and scaling software delivery processes posed operational challenges. The customer required a modern cloud-native platform that could support continuous innovation, automated operations, and faster application delivery while ensuring reliability, scalability, and security. To address these challenges, the organization adopted a cloud-first modernization strategy focused on improving agility, operational efficiency, and customer experience.

Solution

Tata Elxsi deployed its iCX platform on AWS using a cloud-native architecture built on containerized microservices running on Amazon EKS, enabling secure, scalable, and efficient remote monitoring and management of STBs.

Amazon EKS serves as the container orchestration layer, managing the deployment, scaling, and operation of containerized services, while high-availability networking is enabled through Amazon Application Load Balancer (ALB) and Amazon VPC.

Amazon Kinesis Data Streams and Amazon Kinesis Data Firehose power the iCX telemetry pipeline, enabling near real-time, low-latency ingestion of high-volume device telemetry. Amazon S3 acts as a centralized repository for telemetry data and events propagated from CPEs, supporting downstream processing and analytics.

AWS Lambda provides serverless, event-driven processing for the real-time execution of business logic, data validation, and parameter filtering at scale. Jenkins is used for the build and deployment of iCX components. Powered by a rich ecosystem of  AWS-managed services, the solution ensures high availability, scalability, and operational excellence.

Impact

The implementation delivered significant business benefits through enhanced monitoring, telemetry, and analytics capabilities. Continuous health monitoring and telemetry enabled the early detection of software anomalies, improving STB uptime and overall platform stability.

iCX supported the seamless onboarding of new STB variants, ensuring long-term scalability and a future-ready platform while accelerating time-to-market.

Analytics dashboards provided actionable insights that enabled informed operational and product decision-making. Proactive monitoring and remote diagnostics helped reduce operational costs by minimizing truck rolls, manual troubleshooting efforts, and repeat customer support calls.

Faster identification and resolution of connectivity and STB issues reduced downtime, resulting in an improved customer experience and lower customer churn.
