Background
As the connected home market evolves, service providers face growing pressure to deliver innovative broadband and video experiences while managing increasingly complex device portfolios across multiple technologies and geographies. Our client, a leading global provider of broadband, video, and connectivity solutions, sought to strengthen operational efficiency, accelerate innovation, and improve customer responsiveness by consolidating its device engineering ecosystem.
Customer engaged Tata Elxsi as a strategic engineering partner to unify operations across broadband gateways, Wi-Fi extenders, Android TV, RDK, Linux-based video platforms, and next-generation broadband technologies. The engagement spanned more than 200 active device programs supporting leading operators worldwide, positioning Tata Elxsi as a single accountable partner across the full portfolio.
Challenge
The customer managed a large, diverse portfolio of broadband and video products spread across multiple technologies, operators, and geographies. Supporting long-term growth demanded a transformation of a fragmented, globally distributed vendor ecosystem that added governance complexity and operational overhead. Rising engineering costs and intensifying market competition made existing delivery models difficult to sustain.
At the same time, evolving technology requirements exposed talent and skill-retention challenges, while any transformation had to preserve business continuity and uninterrupted support across ongoing programs. They needed a trusted partner able to assume end-to-end engineering ownership, streamline governance, and elevate delivery quality and responsiveness without disrupting active operator deployments.
Solution
Tata Elxsi implemented a comprehensive Device Engineering Consolidation program built on a managed-services model that unified people, processes, infrastructure, and governance into a single delivery framework.
- Established a cost-effective engineering model spanning both ongoing maintenance programs and new product development across the broadband and video portfolios.
- Executed a structured workforce transition through rebadging, knowledge transfer, training, and robust governance, enabling seamless transfer of operational accountability.
- Assumed end-to-end engineering ownership from development to deployment across GPON, xDSL, DOCSIS, FWA, Wi-Fi extenders, and set-top boxes on RDK, OpenWRT, prplOS, Android, and Linux.
- Built development and validation environments and advanced broadband and video test infrastructure supporting board bring-up, system integration, certification, and operator validation.
- Consolidated delivery into low-cost offshore centers, reducing operational overheads while maintaining quality, responsiveness, and business continuity.
- Implemented KPI- and SLA-driven delivery enhanced by automation and AI-led improvements and created innovation-focused Centers of Excellence to accelerate adoption of emerging technologies.

Impact
The consolidation program delivered a scalable, future-ready engineering model that strengthened Client's device engineering operations while enabling continued business growth.
- Consolidated engineering ownership across 200+ broadband and video device programs, simplifying operations and improving delivery efficiency.
- Supported deployments across 150+ operator ecosystems globally, enabling consistent quality, faster response times, and seamless service continuity.
- Accelerated new product development through end-to-end ownership of both maintenance and New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.
- Strengthened innovation with dedicated labs, Centers of Excellence, and automation-led process improvements.
- Improved product quality and customer satisfaction through KPI- and SLA-driven delivery frameworks.
- Ensured a smooth, low-disruption transition through structured knowledge transfer and governance, establishing a future-ready foundation for evolving broadband and video technologies.
